Review of Arrival (2016) by Ivor K — 08 Jul 2017
Hugely enjoyable and thought provoking it may be, but Arrival simply dishes up, yet again, the direct descendants of the 1950's "men in rubber suits" as aliens. Surely a highly advanced civilisation would remember a time when it was at the same stage in development to our own and reached out accordingly.
Instead we get the usual galvanised forms with no clothing, objects or appurtenances of any kind and dwelling in unfurnished habitats that look like an ad for concrete. Instead we get five legged creatures drawing interesting circles.
A worthy effort it's true but the paucity of ideas concerning extraterrestrial life is even more frustrating than Star Trek's famous facial prosthetics.
