Review of Arrival (2016) by Ourtimehascome — 11 Mar 2017
Unlike other sci-fi extra-terrestrial first contact films, Arrival is much slower paced. It focuses on contemplation, thought rather than action. That is not a bad thing, and in fact bodes well for the tone.
It manages to be both suspenseful and intriguing, though it has the potential to expect more from its audience. I see many similarities between Villeneuve and Christopher Nolan; both of whom create visually striking scenes with a deep story to back it up.
