Review of Arrival (2016) by Katya K — 24 Feb 2017
Arrival provided a softer side of sci-fi that would appeal to non-sci-fi fans. It had a story and aspects that were interesting and complemented the genre. However, the concept was very similar to Robert Wise's The Day The Earth Stood Still; aliens coming to earth to help us, humans trying to react violently, and one human saving the day.
This film is great for those who have not seen older sci-fi works and are new to the genre, but I thought it lacked the depth and meaning of some truly great films and gave that up for romanticism to appeal to a more general audience.
