Review of Arrival (2016) by Patricia W — 03 Sep 2017
Arrival is excellent on every level from Amy Adams' performance, to the music, sound design, the script, the cinematography and the plot as a whole. Arrival centres around an alien presence that has arrived on earth and humanity's response to it.
Amy Adams' character, Dr. Louise Banks and Jeremy Renner's character, Ian Donnelly, are called upon by US forces to try and communicate with two of the new alien lifeforms and establish why they are here.
It's a very refreshing depiction of an alien encounter, focussing on language and communication rather than a run of the mill action or horror trope. This is a very interesting look at humanity and time and it is definitely worth watching.
