Review of Arranged (2007) by Azly J — 28 Apr 2008
I was worried throughout that the movie had a canned plot in which the women would be stock characters who form an alliance and battle (oversimplified) oppressive forces toward (some equally canned idea of) liberation and autonomy.
Instead, the characters developed as complesx individuals who mutually expressed empathy for one another without it seeming contrived or forced. They courageously handled their desparate parents, and I especially like how they gracefully handled the shamefully racist school administrator.
