Review of Army of Darkness (1992) by Adam T — 13 Jul 2011
I find this to be the most entertaining of the trilogy. it's beyond cheesy and, like its predecessors, is laughably bad. it actually has some semblance of story--not much of one, but at least it's not another cabin in the woods.
the acting is at both extremes. Bruce Campbell is way over the top and everyone else is barely trying. the comedy works well for the groan factor, but that's about it. much as I love slapstick and cheese, it didn't work for this movie.
the barrage of close-up/one-liner combos also got really irritating. the first evil dead might be my favorite just because it can actually carry some weight as a low-budget horror film. this one has the lightest feel, the most plot and action (for whatever that's worth), and is probably the most enjoyable to watch.
even still, this isn't a good movie and it's not a good series.
