Review of Army of Darkness (1992) by Andrew D — 18 Aug 2012

The final chapter in the Evil Dead trilogy doesn't disappoint. However, it's a huge step down from its creepy predecessors. The story follows Ash as he tries to find a way back to his time after being stranded in the 1300's.

When he's told by a magician that he can return to his old time if he can find the Necronomicon, he accidently raises the dead after forgetting the words he needs to say in order to retrieve the book (Klaatu Barata Niktoo).

Now the Deadites are after the book and it's up to Ash to protect the castle and find his way home. I will say that I was hugely entertained by this movie. The action scenes, while really silly looking, were fun to watch and some of Ash's one-liners were pretty humorous.

Sadly, the only HUGE issue I have with this movie is (like Freddy's Dead: The Final Nightmare) that it tends to wander into Looney Tunes territory with crazy sound effects and cartoon looking special effects.

If you've seen the first two Evil Dead films, by all means watch Army of Darkness! It's a fun and funny film, but just a bit too cartoony.
