Review of Army of Darkness (1992) by Nathan T — 15 Aug 2013

This is an odd one for me to review. First things first, it's a great film. It's incredibly funny, owing that to the Three Stooges-esque slapstick and Bruce Campbell's iconic performance as Ash.

I had a lot of fun watching this... however, the whole time there was a little voice niggling in the back of my mind saying "but it isn't Evil Dead." And that is true, I wouldn't really consider this to be an Evil dead movie, sure it's in the same canon, but it's also so radically differennt to the first two movies that it can be slightly jarring.

Horror is dropped completely, meaning that it loses a lot of the tension that made the laughs all the more glorious in Evil Dead 2. What we're left with is an incredibly entertaining comedy that is definitely worth your time, but just be aware if you're a fan of Evil Dead that it isn't like the other two.
