Review of Armageddon (1996) by Jonathan S — 20 Nov 2013
Up there with Pain and Gain as one of Michael Bay's weakest movies, it's messy, loud and poorly acted, what annoyed me the most was the piss take of logic, it's completely defied and over the top to the point of idiocy.
The effects are fantastic though, the explosions and scale of destruction is great and that's where Bay succeeds the most which is expected. Featuring one of the most preposterous and insanely crazy plots, logic is defied completely but the fun is pretty much wiped off the slate.
Michael Clarke Duncan, Billy Bob Thornton, Liv Tyler and Will Patton deliver the best performances in this movie, they do a decent job compared to the rest, they are more believable and likeable, whereas the rest of the cast are a bit silly, over the top and annoying at times and the humour against the chaotic backdrop of deep space action is a horrible mix.
Overall a poor movie, Bay has done a whole lot better.
