Review of Arizona Dream (1993) by Ben G — 16 Jan 2008

I have a hard time reviewing this film because it conjures up similar emotions in me as when I watched My Blueberry Nights by one of my all-time fave directors. I was disgusted. I turned it off after 20 minutes and have never finished it.

Kusturica has, for years, been one of my favourite directors with such immense movies as Time of the Gypsies, Black Cat White Cat, Underground..etc.. so having watched this only made me feel like his insanity and humour is completely lost in the English Language/set up. I though parts of the movie were grand, some scenes/dialogues were excellent, some of the manic lunacy was well executed.. but overall it lacked that kusturica seasoning to it... I was quite disappointed in the end... I will have to go back and watch another of his movies to restore my undying affection for him!
