Review of Argo (2012) by Sean N — 04 Oct 2013
Argo is just another reason of how Affleck really stepped up in the movie business. He has become a masterful director who pays close attention to details and knowing where to put his things along with the real story.
This movie goes into the operation of a fake movie to save six people with great detail, along with some nice nods to how the movie business was in the late 70's going onto the 80's. There are even many shots based on actual pictures and with shots like those it really creates a great atmosphere.
Now this film does focus on how America viewed the crisis mostly, but that's fine since this was an American operation to save their people. The film is not about the whole issue with Iran during this setting, it's about the story of how a fake movie saved people from torture or even death.
The best part about the film is the pacing, it does perfectly to really give off the suspense and it does keep a grip on you for a long time. It does remind me of how Taxi Driver kept it's suspense and let everything go at near the end of the third act.
Everything comes full circle and it all rushes in while not confusing anyone. In real life this is a fantastic tale and how it is shown as a movie, it's flawless.
