Review of Argo (2012) by Phillip D — 24 Nov 2013
I came into the movie having heard the rave reviews and seen the undeserved rating on this site. I left with the realization that no matter what storyline he is given, Ben Affleck will always ruin it. He really is the richer, more established Ryan Reynolds.
This movie, while starting off with promising humor, a rich set of supporting actors and an intriguing plot ends where most Affleck movies begin, in a boring, colorless film land that had me and my buddy chatting halfway through about other, more worthy movies.
Don't get me wrong, this is a screenplay that could and should have gone somewhere. It just didn't. Why? Because Ben Affleck, that's why. The movie was generic, the action was sporadic and by the end I was wondering why I was supposed to give a shit about these poor, boring Americans or Canadians or whatever they were.
