Review of Argo (2012) by Trevor R — 01 Feb 2014
This is a quick and clever script, well-acted and perfectly paced. It doesn't reinvent the wheel, throwing in a half-hearted subplot about Mendez' relationship with his son, and relying a bit too heavily on genre cliches by way of historical revisionism (Pretty much all of the nail-biting obstacles in the last half-hour are completely made up).
Still, the supporting cast is quite wonderful, particularly the Goodman and Arkin comedy duo, as well as another great performance from Scoot McNairy who continues to impress (See "Monsters" and "Killing Them Softly).
Entertaining and inspiring, if a bit indulgent in its back-patting of Hollywood.
