Review of Argo (2012) by Caz H — 13 Sep 2014
This was one of the most stressful films I've seen in ages, I spent half of it running in and out of the room, but I think that is a testament to how well the tension was managed and how much we were made to care about the mission Mendez was embarking on.
It told a true story in a way that, although probably embellished, was entertaining, emotional and cinematic. The character of Tony Mendez in particular, and those around him, is a presentation of a true hero but this is done in an unassuming and fairly unsentimental way.
I felt uplifted at the end of the film and yet it mostly avoided any cheesy clichés. I'm not sure if I'll be watching it again anytime soon but it's a superb film that I highly rate.
