Review of Argo (2012) by Kristi M — 03 Mar 2015
It's interesting reading reviews because regardless of what version was put out it's still a movie about undercover ops- I doubt many except those involved know the actual truth. What they did brilliantly was bring what was publicly known to be true into the imagery of photos and real life television broadcasts from the time to make it feel like it's happening now.
They amped up the suspense of course and even though I knew they would be ok I tried to view it as they would NOT knowing if they were going to make it. What an insane story and you have to give some cred for Affleck choosing this over other source material to make a movie from.
Was it sensationalized? Of course, it's a MOVIE folks, even documentaries get sensationalized and don't get the facts right all of the time. I choose this over Independence Day anytime if I fancy a US saves the world movie.
The only part that had me baffled was at the end- I think Kevin Smith snuck in some of his personal SciFi collectibles. After some nice pausing over Chewbacca and Darth Vader figurines I then saw the Argo sketch and I got it.
Original? Who knows but if so that's pretty cool.
