Review of Argo (2012) by Kevin R — 04 Jan 2014
Argofuckyourself.
A bad situation in Iran leads to 60 American's being taken hostage. Six are able to escape and be held up in a Canadian outpost...but no one knows how to get them out. A CIA operations group, led by a civilian, comes up with an elaborate plan to act like a movie making project, sneak into Iran to look at sets, and sneak back out with the hostages. The plan will take quick thinking and maneuvering to execute.
"It's like talking to those two old fuckers from the Muppets.".
Ben Affleck, director of Gone Baby Gone, The Town, and the upcoming The Middle Man, delivers Argo. The storyline for this picture is interesting and a nice historical thriller. The pace is a bit slow and the action sequences are far and few between. The character development is well done and the cast delivers above average performances. The cast includes Ben Affleck, John Goodman, Bryan Cranston, Alan Arkin, and Clea DuVall.
"This is the best bad idea we have by far.".
I DVR'd this picture off cable due to the high accolades this movie received. I would compare this to Money Ball in that it was an okay drama that was far from a genre classic that likely did not deserve all of the award show nominations. I felt this was okay, but far from film of the year. I would watch this once but wouldn't add it to my DVD collection.
"I'd rather stay home and count the wrinkles on my dog's balls.".
Grade: B- /B (7.5).
