Review of Are We There Yet? (2005) by David ? — 27 Aug 2008
If the makers of this film wanted the audience to feel the agony, annoyance, and torture, that the Ice Cube character seems to experiance in this clunker, than they certainly accomplished that mission.
This is an unbearable family comedy. While the kids may enjoy it, ages fifteen, and up, will try to find a way to be put out of there misery. It's just rediculous how the mother leaves her kids with a guy that she barely knows, and has him drive them hours away to meet her at the airport.
And the mayhem that the kids are constantly causing, is more annoying than anything else. Some parts were funny, but most relied on cheap slapstick, and talking bobble heads. Not to mention car explosions, killer truck drivers, and a deer who does kung-fu, apparently they give karate lessons in the deep forest.
The movie is 91 minutes, but that's not even short enough. When it gets near the end, you can't help but think "Are We There Yet?".
