Review of Arctic Tale (2007) by Julia S — 02 Dec 2007
I hate giving this movie two stars, for I am SUCH a fan of the pseudo-documentary/nature film genre, but arctic tale blew it. first of all, the cinematography - the shots captured - are cool, but wane in comparison to the cinematography of, say, the "planet earth" series.
second, it caters entirely towards young children, and doesn't have the wide appeal that "march of the penguins" does. a three year old may enjoy it; the parent most likely will not. third, queen latifah's narration is oddly sassy and frankly kind of annoying.
fourth, it REALLY hits you over the head with its global warming message. I mean, it basically takes an environmentalist brick and pounds you with it until blood is shooting out of your ears. fifth, I just don't understand how a soundtrack involving cat stevens, aimee mann and the shins can suck, but it does.
I had such high hopes for this, but sadly I would rather watch a run-of-the-mill program on the discovery channel than sit through this.
