Review of Archenemy (2020) by Umaumai — 09 Jan 2021
This is one time that I definitely don’t agree with the critics’ s score for a movie. I can’t even begin to recommend this movie hard enough as I scramble to keep my excitement for it in clear and concise thoughts.
Because of that I might go a little out of order for why I think it was so great. I’m hurriedly typing in my take on this movie after just finishing it. The first thing that stood out to me was how it is shot and edited better then most of the films I’ve seen this decade.
I can’t get over just how good this movie looked. It’s on a level very close to some of the blockbuster films for how technically and artful it is produced and put together. The casting and acting is wonderful.
The story might come off a bit crazy, but it keeps you entertained while guessing as to the true origins of the main character. Because of that I never lost my suspension of disbelief. While the pacing is a little off, it still builds and leaves room for suspense.
The score isn’t quite memorable, but it does its job adequately. My one complaint is the animated sequences weren’t up to the rest of the films quality. The art for the animation was great, but the animation was just very janky.
Not smooth. More akin to a motion comic. If that is what they were going for it unfortunately took me out of the movie every time it happens. If you’ve seen James Gunn’s “Super” and liked it I would be surprised if you saw this and didn’t love it.
I’d say check this “super hero” film out.
