Review of Arbitrage (2012) by Satyaki M — 08 Jan 2013
"Arbitrage" is a profoundly unoriginal movie, a mix and match of "Bonfire of the Vanities", "The Player" and a dozen less notable flicks. It is predictable and badly directed, with Mr Gere , Mr Roth and Ms. Sarandon delivering their single-faceted, uncharismatic characters' lines with a singular lack of pathos. The moves are there, but the heart just isn't.
Yet, the worst quality of this film is that you have simply no character to empathize with. The plot revolves around Robert Miller, a cheating, womanizing hypocrit of an investment banker who briefly crosses paths with a French mistress, a dirty cop and a drunk, faithless wife. There is also a daughter who plays Conscience for a brief time.
Yawn.
