Review of Arakimentari (2004) by Eunice C — 17 Feb 2010
Since touring his photo exhibition for the first time over 15 years ago, I have been taking this guy as a crazy, bizarre and erotic genius. This docu has largely adjusted my perception. Araki Hirohiko is a interesting, childish contemporary photographer with power of imgination.
His obsession with women, as far as I see, is all about respect, fun, love and liberation. He developed such an obsession since childhood. He started relating women to death and sex, having witnessed many dead, lone prositutes dumped to an abandoned graveyard without leaving a mark.
I really like his friendly idea of picturing porn housewives and the fact that so many housewives are coming over his studio for "help" to make their wish come true. Watch it but watch this colourful biography of Araki with a sense of humor, and ease.
