Review of Arachnophobia (1990) by Aidan C — 02 Nov 2008
Better than I thought it'd be. I mean, I had no idea what this film would be like when I agreed to watch it except that it would involve spiders... but I wasn't sure whether or not I was to expect a realistic spider scare or smarmy, 10 foot arachnids running rampant in a cheesy and outrageous comedy for the ages.
It turned out to be the former and while the film did not start out in a particularly engaging fashion (note, I stopped about half an hour into it to make myself a grilled cheese sandwich), it did not turn out half bad in the end.
It's certainly plenty creepy, especially with the use of what I imagine to be real spiders and it's interesting enough that the fairly predictable plot did not detract too much from my enjoyment of the film.
If you find spiders generally creepy in real life, this is a great piece to watch if you want to exacerbate that fear.
