Review of Aquaman (2018) by Megawargreymon — 08 Mar 2019
Aquaman is exactly what a super hero movie should strive to be. It has high-stakes, a likable main protagonist and a villain you just want to slap. The movie follows "a hero's journey" to the letter and that's a good thing. The story is faithful to the source it is taken from. Jason Momoa is a great leed for this incarnation of the DC hero. Amber Heard is perfect for Mera. She is strong and witty without sacrificing her feminine charm. William Dafoe is well cast as the wise mentor Vulko. His devotion to Arthur is believable. Patrick Will's Ocean Master is a villain you just love to hate with pinch of sympathy. In general the cast is strong.
The hero is cocky and is not interested in the responsibility thrust upon him. After he is soundly humbled for his rash judgement he is insecure and has to face his destiny. A simple premise with good execution. Aquaman is a fin light-hearted adventure that will satisfy anyone looking a good time.
