Review of Aquaman (2018) by Jeffb4125 — 31 Dec 2018

More overrated than Black Panther. I have no idea how a movie with such a fantastical premise could be so boring. Its essentially power rangers meets knock off Avatar with plenty of shirtless Momoa to attract the female demo (the same lucrative demo that ensured Wonder Woman's domestic success (which, by the way, is the movie you should rewatch instead of Aquaman if you somehow need a DCEU fix)).

I felt dirty after watching this movie, like WB tried to react to every criticism its super franchise had ever received and thought hey, lets smash Star Wars, Avatar, Lord of the Rings, Indiana Jones and the entirety of the MCU together that should sell tickets right? Apparently it worked from a box office standpoint, but in the process they have taken the phrase cash grab to a whole new level.

Some of the visuals are creative and the set design sometimes makes up for the shockingly inconsistent CGI, but ultimately it turns out I am incapable of turning my brain off to the degree that this movie requires.
