Review of Aquaman (2018) by Eyal S — 05 Jan 2019
First the good. Temuera Morrison was a human character that was mortal and interesting. The several scenes he was in were also the least CGI and the best in terms of engagement. The first fight was pretty cool.
The Bad; from the very start where we are introduced to AquaMan he is portrayed as invulnerable. Throughoutt the movie he is fighting, but is totally invulnerable. Even when attacked with weapons that he should be vulnerable to he receives little more than a flesh wound.
There is no sense of tension for the hero. Tries to give some kind of moral lesson, but it lost in the background of a huge number of deaths. CGI can't make up for a useless story. This is not a heros journey, has no character development.
And while I don't expect films like this to be accurate to the science it would have been good to make it look more like real life instead of a video game.
