Review of Aquaman (2018) by Alex G — 06 Jan 2019
It's bad in a way that's visually distracting and often soulless. With leading actors who can't do more than support their good looks, the movie relies on cliches and convention to pressure you into caring.
The worlds and monsters are fun, but lack any substance. We visit these place, but don't know how any of them actually live or what their cultures are like. The ending battle is a ton of fun--it's like being a little kid and dropping the whole toy box into the bathtub.
By the end, my hate almost fading because I was so impressed by how far they took things. It's a movie not for me. It's for kids, which is fine...but things like How to Train Your Dragon and John Carter exist that do this so much better.
