Review of Aquaman (2018) by Dylan M — 09 Jan 2019
Is it too long? Yes, by a good twenty, maybe thirty minutes.
Does it try too desperately (to the repeated detriment of an already somewhat shaky plot) to make Amber Heard's "Mera" smarter and more competent than Aquaman at every conceivable turn, because Grrrlll Power and Yasss Slay Queen, Y'all? Oh, good *god*, yes, does it ever.
All that being said, however: the film is the visual equivalent of an orgasm, with each and every underwater sequence more genuinely jaw-dropping and mind-blowing than the last; and Momoa well and truly makes the title character his own, by dint of sheer, salty, swaggering magnificence. Overall, every last bit as good and worthwhile a flick as WONDER WOMAN... and maybe even just a hair better.
