Review of Aquaman (2018) by Fransiscus D — 11 Jan 2019

I was reluctant to write about a movie that I saw almost a month a go... but I guess the hype is still inside me or maybe I just like the movie better than I thought.

Okey... so, the movie itself is a bit complicated in term is it a great movie (script/storywise) or is it just a fun movie. In the surface this movie is a very simple movie. its offer u an adventure of arthur curry, a half breed of human and atlantean, to save the world from the fury of his half brother, orm... bcoz he hate surface dweller (human) for destroying (polluting) the sea (world as overall). (be careful... spoiler alert from this point).

But then when we follow Arthur's journey than we see that this movie design is so broad/big that we jump from land to sea to atlantis to sahara to italy then to sea again and then to the center of the world. With this long but fast journey, we get a bit different tone from each place and character progression betwean Arthur and his supporting cast, from Mera, Orm, Black Manta, Vulco, Atlanta and his father. This might cost a jarring or a fracture experience for audience who want more a focus storyline.

So basically, I think, aquaman is multilayer story but with a different design on how this leyer story being told compare to MOS and BvS. Aquaman "multi layer" story was easier to follow. its like all card fold in a line... compare to BvS in which like all card fold in overlap backward and foward.

The heart of this story lies in the story of Arthur parent who being apart years and miles away. Arthur relationship with his brother, Orm and also to Mera is good anough.

CGI and action really help this movie to triump in the box office december 2018. AQM soundtrack isn't as iconic compare to MOS or Wonder Woman... but I think its deliver. I even enjoy AQM ost better as its a song rather than a instrumental music (MOS/WW).
