Review of Aquaman (2018) by Lisa J — 14 Jan 2019
That's the thing with high expectations. After watching the rather engaging trailer I decided to give Aquaman a shot, though not having been very impressed during his outing in Justice League. The premise of Aquaman could have created cinema magic.
Instead we have action sequences substituting for plot, a superhero with the mental and emotional intelligence of a caveman and Amber Heard's attempt to deliver cringe-worthy dialogue without losing her dignity.
What could have been a wonderful outing, fell mostly short of substance and nuance. Though I appreciated the underwater set design, occasional moments of wit - mostly thanks to Willem Dafoe's presence and facial expressions - and some of the more entertaining action sequences, all in all this movie just couldn't win me over.
What a pity!
