Review of Aquaman (2018) by Kyle T — 15 Jan 2019
Now I was both disappointed and over joyed after seeing this movie.
First let me just say that Jason Momoa was exceptional, the action scenes were directed really nicely, no quick cuts, and the jokes were nice for a change. The tone still fit into the dark DC universe that they are setting up, but there was still plenty of actually funny jokes throughout.
Now let me just say that when I walked in knowing quite a bit about the Aquaman in the comics I was a little worried that DC would just try playing it safe and not change anything. Basically do what they did in their straight to DVD cartoon release. I was of course really excited to find out very quickly that they did try to change it up a lot. Also I was pleased to know that DC did not waste both of Aquaman's most well know enemies. That pleased me a lot.
Now let me just say the writing in this movie is mediocre at best. It is so predictable that it kinda just becomes a joke to me. At times its just straight out cringe like the writers were just like, yeah that normally happens in a superhero movie let's put it in. Still I believe that the actors still brought there best making it bearable to the veiwer.
In the end the 64% 6/10 from the critics makes sense and is basically what I believe is very fair and generous.
