Ultimately, Aquaman was a forgettable film that I saw in a double feature with âEdge Of The Spider-Verseâ?. I have always heard that DCEu movies were terrible and never truly hopped on that bandwagon until this picture.

Iâ(TM)m a 90â(TM)s baby, it was too light for me. I feel like this film should have dropped on Valentineâ(TM)s Day instead of Christmas weekend because there were plenty of scenes that were geared toward the female viewers , most specifically the scene where Arthur and Mera were walking in slow motion on to the desert, the Selfie scene at the bar, or the deplorable D-list Top 40 soundtrack in general.

I hated the fact that the film turned out to be a love story. When I read â The Trenchâ? in my teenâ(TM)s , Arthurâ(TM)s mom stayed dead and his Royal advisor died as well too after the betrayal to Orrin was found true. Just as well, I believe Arthurâ(TM)s father had gotten the axe some way or another as well. The Justice League was all over that story too, and I understand that having any of those characters featured in this film would have been expensive to manage, but I would have wanted some more deaths in this interpretation of the story of Aquaman to have stuck in the script, to turn Arthur into a more stoic, grim, leader fit for kingship.

Speaking of Kingship, the actor who played Arthurâ(TM)s brother should stick to his role as Nite-Owl if he ever re-enters the DCU. His performance in Aquaman did not leave me in terror, he appeared weak in the face of the protagonistâ(TM)s as well as his ARmy and of course overshadowed by Black Manta, who should have been the main villain in this film. I would have loved to see a film about vengeance over love lost than one about love found.

There were a few good scenes like the fight in Paris and the intro fight with Aquamanâ(TM)s mom but other than those saving graces, at least this is not the worst film that I have seen with James Wanâ(TM)s name attached to it. Saw VI, anyone?
