“At some measurement, the movie innovates DCU providing solid marine-scenic shoots and beautiful landscapes not to mention some good battles over and underwater. Nonetheless, it just feels mediocre, as if someone could have made it look more fabulous” The first time I saw Aquaman in the theatre was at the premier of Justice League, technically my knowledge about the character was poor and underestimating towards his powers because it was obvious he had to do something regarding water. Afterwards, I concluded that this character was the least powerful and some of the most boring I have seen for a long time. Therefore, my ambitious hopes and dreams bowing to a future-successful franchise went away due to continuous flicks failures throughout the decade (except Wonder Woman). As might be seen, my desires for a standout movie faded one hundred percent. From here on, you may be wondering the reason why I watched the movie and gave it a good score.

To begin with, we’re talking about life underwater and a brand-new world never showed before. As has been pointed out, no movie had a plot and many fights in this context. Therefore, it was worth a chance -and it didn’t disappoint whatsoever- because the movie made great efforts, stunning visual effects (including the addition of some unordinary animals) and characters whom the audience do not consider usual but enjoy watching. Consequently, the movie had a prodigious potential. Now on, it is essential to discuss the reason why the movie was as popular as expected. It follows up so many clichés and sadly, director James Wan, falls continually with them. Let me give you some examples: a) Character walking while something from behind explodes, b) Character whom you hardly know, ends up being you girl/boyfriend, c) Protagonists dwell with his/her past before reaching the climax of the movie, etc. It is plain to see the predictability from loads of scenes. On the other hand, the villain (who fosters the movie) turned out to be underdeveloped. In Thor franchise, you get to know the past of the royal siblings and Loki’s, it clearly shows the motivations of each one. Whereas, the movie Aquaman just summarizes the past in less than 5 minutes in order to fully understand the enthusiasms of each one. Did you know something about the villain’s father? I did not understand a bit of it. Finally, Black Manta was wasted as a co-villain, appearing in some shoots and finally disappearing until the very end. Surprisingly, the sequel still is going to need more and marine shoots and some good action pieces in order to make Aquaman a remarkable movie.
