Review of Aquaman (2018) by Darren S — 24 Dec 2018
I saw this in IMAX, and the occasional aspect ratio change was the biggest annoyance, but that was so minor that it did not draw away from the experience. I've heard people say that they found the plot convoluted, which I do not agree with.
It's straightforward, regarding that one pays attention. The tone was not as much of a mess as I was led to believe. It shifted a few times while always keeping the classic origin story tone, with either some levity or darkness occasionally thrown into the mix.
Think Batman Begins, except invert the use of humor and darkness. The CGI was a little off in a handful of scenes, but that isn't a huge problem for me either. The visuals, in my opinion, definitely outshine those in Avatar, due more so to artistic flair than technological advancement.
This is, overall, a very well shot, well directed, well acted, and very well scored film and it definitely earns a five star rating.
