Review of Aquaman (2018) by Jerry H — 22 Dec 2018
The movie is visually stunning. Jason Momoa is fun in his role to be sure. Unfortunately that is where the positives end. In this almost two and a half feature there is no character development. It is a hero's journey with no consequences.
Aquaman starts out a loner with no true leadership skills and ends up a loner king with no leadership skills. The plot is transparent and every twist is seen way before the reveal. On top of that there is no where this fits in continuity with its predecessor Justice League.
They could have given us a prequel origin story, or the story of how he learned to come to terms with his new place in the world as a hero, or they could have done a movie about him realizing he could be a hero and the king his people needed.
They tied to give us all three and so they failed on all fronts.
