Review of Aquaman (2018) by Simon G — 23 Dec 2018
Honestly, this movie was actually pretty good. This movie had some amazing action sequences tied together with the power of CGI. On that note, the CGI was overall pretty awesome. There were some moments that didnâ(TM)t look amazing, but overall they did a great job of illustrating the magical underwater fantasy of Aquaman.
The storyline was also pretty good, and the plot was easy to follow. However, it is not all good. In the beginning, there is an emotional goodbye that left me feeling emotionless. There was also an assortment of very cliche and cringe-worthy moments.
The movie also did an okay job of balancing out the serious moments with comedy, although there was a joke or two that didnâ(TM)t fit or ruined the moment. The characters were also done terrifically.
The bad guy Orm had very good reasoning, and I was tempted to side with him, but the balanced him out with a good amount of evil actions. Also, I did feel like Orm was overshadowed by the side villain Black Manta, who had some amazing character development and looked awesome on screen.
Arthur was also treated with great respect. His character growth from good hearted drinker to selfless king was done amazingly, but I did feel as though they glossed over a big part of his life. The character Mera did a great job of showing off true girl power, and often stole the show.
The post credit scene also did a good job of teasing enough for an Aquaman 2 to be justified, but still made it so I wouldnâ(TM)t be sad if there isnâ(TM)t one. Overall, from the special effects to characters to the plot to the acting, this movie was actually pretty awesome!
