Review of Apt Pupil (1998) by John O — 12 Aug 2007
Ian McKellen is fantastic as a Nazi officer who played a central role in the genocide in WW2. While being successfully incognito for the last 40 years in America he's eventually discovered by a highschool student obsessed with the Holocaust, who's played brilliantly by Brad Renfro.
Their twisted relationship is a great examination of what is right and wrong, and particularly what is evil. Is it the war veteran who has committed unthinkable acts or the 17 year old blackmailing him? Bryan Singer produces another great film adaptation here that deserves alot more acclaim than it has received.
Creepy, different and compelling.
