Review of Apt Pupil (1998) by Niklas S — 29 Aug 2009
Interesting movie that has solid suspense but lacks the depth that was almost promised by the premise. Fantastic acting is not weighed down by a completly average script but it is the lost potential and poor pacing that throws the film off. Ian almost pulls off a Hannibal Lector level of villany but approaches the role with more of a human and believable evil which we all can relate at times and even see a little in ourselves.
With rewrite of the script and a new director (for the pacing issues) this could have been the next great psycological thriller.
