Review of Appleseed: Ex Machina (2007) by Ed K — 10 Mar 2008
Sequel to the 2004 remake of Appleseed, it takes the cel shaded CG animation from the first movie and takes the visual treats a step further. A very slick and polished movie further added by having John Woo in the directors chair, and while some may find his style a bit cliched, and heavy handed, it shines in the action sequences.
I'm sure Woo delighted in being able to push his two gun action style further in a non-live action environment where the characters could defy physics much more than Chow Yun Fat ever could. The story is a bit more simplistic than the first, and for those who have watched a lot of sci-fi anime before; not too original.
Still its a fun, slick popcorn movie and will look fantastic in bluray hi def.
