Review of Appleseed: Ex Machina (2007) by Jesse W — 17 May 2008
Props must be given to the great animation and ridiculously awesome action scenes, but there are just as many flaws as the the previous entry, just different ones. There is some political commentary that isn't quite developed, plenty of cheese, lame dialog and poor storytelling.
With some brainless films there needs to be brainless viewing, not that there aren't qualities like the technical design, immersible viewing, and action factors that have meaning. This is one you watch with your friends and casually joke about while thinking it's awesome at the same time.
Kudos to an awesome head shot and an absurdly triumphant attack scene that is so shamelessly heroic with it's Hans Zimmer-esque chords progressions in the background that you can't help but reach for the rewind button and start screaming YEAH!
