Review of Appleseed: Ex Machina (2007) by Mike D — 06 Jul 2008
The action and CG animation are quite wondrous at times, but the story could use a few polishes as it's rather messy and chooses to include more action beats rather than develop the relationship between Deunan and Briareos and the subsequent one with Tereus.
The original Appleseed this is not. It plays out like a video game, looks and feels like a video game, but at the end of the day I'd rather play a game than sit there watching it. However, I give additional points for using the likes of Cornelius and The Mad Capsule Markets to score the piece.
