Review of Appaloosa (2008) by Johnny B — 22 Feb 2014
Has many of the elements of a traditional Western but goes deeper into character. Its depth is also its flaw, however, as the pacing slows to build character just at the time when you expect it to speed up and sizzle.
As both star and director, Ed Harris pays close attention to the details of both his role and the look of the film, which is startlingly real. The fine cast of Viggo Mortensen, Renee Zellweger and Jeremy Irons light it up with command performances.
