Review of Apostasy (2017) by Toby H — 31 Aug 2018
This was the most balanced movie of the Jehovah's Witnesses experience I have seen yet. Nothing in the movie was exaggerated and that makes it even more horrifying to non JWs that this is what happens when someone wants to leave that religion.
This could have been made by the JWs themselves to show what they expect a parent to do when a child leaves the "Truth" (what they call their religion) and at the same time provide a eye-opener to the world of what really goes on behind fake smiles.
Yes. It is slow and quiet but the actors were amazing in capturing those moments of inner dialogue many witnesses have as they are not allowed to Express doubt outloud for fear of being cut off from family and friends.
Best way to watch this is with a JW or even a former JW. They can provide tidbits of information that the movie doesn't dwell on and in turn as a non jw you can give a JW feedback on what you see as it will be different then what they take away as their critical thinking as most certainly been warped and affected by the dogma of the religion.
