Apollo 18 is an example of film that just doesn't give the audience enough of anything regarding all its components. The overall experience of watching this film is one of total and complete dissatisfaction.
The character development is almost non-existent, the camera work is annoying at times, the special effects are shoddy looking, and the secrets revealed by the plot are underwhelming. Rock creatures?! That's all this film amounts to?! The writers of this flick really cheated us out of a good experience because they seemed to have taken the approach of not bothering to explain the motivations behind any character/creature in the film.
What was the DOD hoping to accomplish by sending these astronauts on a secret mission to the moon given that they knew that its surface was occupied by killer rocks? Never explained. What were the creatures trying to accomplish by infecting the astronauts? Never explained.
Why didn't any of the astronauts from the previous apollo missions run into the creatures that the astronauts encountered in this film? Never explained. I'm all for being cryptic when it fits the scenario, but I think the writers could pushed a little harder with this film and given us something more.
