Review of Apollo 18 (2011) by Glignox . — 17 Mar 2012
Apollo 18 is not all that effective of a movie, but I don't really think it's the disaster that it has been made out to be. The story is paper thin; the acting is passable, but nothing special; and the pacing is slow for this kind of film, which would be ok if there was any measureable level of tension.
Techincally, this is a well made movie, from the aged look of the picture to decent special effects, but as authentic as the film appears to be, it doesn't really suceed at what it sets out to do: scare the audience.
This ultimately draws a lot of comparisons to Paranormal Activity, however Paranormal Activity does everything this does, but does it 10 times better. Only recommended for hardcore sci fi fans or those those that are very curious about this.
If you only have a passing interest and would like a effective 'found footage' film, try Trollhunter, the Paranormal Activity series, the Rec series, and even Grave Encounters if you can find it.
Even though I'm not a fan of it, the Blair Witch Project was more effective than this. If you can go into this with an open mind and a lot of patience, you might find something to enjoy, but truth be told this will probably just bore most people.
