Review of Apollo 18 (2011) by Will B — 30 Mar 2013
Writer's brainstorming session...
Screenwriter: "I'm having writer's block here at this pretentious cafe in Brooklyn. Let me ask these latte sipping hipsters to name the first movie from the 90s that comes to mind.".
Hipster one, wearing a fedora and Warby Parkers that are too round for his face shape: "I really liked Tom Hanks in that Larry Crown movie with Julia Roberts a few years back. It was so thought provoking.".
Screenwriter: "I said 90s.".
Hipster two, the friend of Hipster one, who is flaunting a gingham neckerchief: "How about Apollo 13?".
Screenwriter: "Thanks.".
Hipster one: "What about Ruby Sparks? That movie was really thought provoking too.".
Screenwriter: "I said 90s.".
Hipster two: "The first movie that came to my mind was The Blair Witch Project. It was so innovative how they made it real and raw with the lost footage angle and it was so much better than those Hollywood style blockbusters like Independence Day and Armageddon that were so predictable and lame.".
Screenwriter: "Thanks. You just inspired me. I have a great idea now that is sure to capitalize on the public's love of space movies while appealing to self-conscious appreciators of true art like yourselves. This could be my big break.".
