Review of Apollo 13 (1995) by Gordon C — 13 Dec 2009
This movie includes a certain amount of bitching about how the media has lost interest in the space program, and can't be bothered even broadcasting a transmission from the capsule, but perks up the instant something goes wrong.
But the movie itself is a part of the very attitude it's complaining about. Where, for example, are the movies about Apollo 12, or 14?
Nothing went wrong on those missions (at least, not in any life-threatening sort of way), so they're obviously not worth making movies about.
By now, there have been more movies made about rap musicians than about the space program. Which perhaps says something about the relative contribution to our culture of these two activities. Make of it what you will.
