Review of Apollo 13 (1995) by Daniel P — 18 Sep 2012

I saw this in the theater as a kid and it was on AMC this weekend, so I figured I'd review.

One of the best inspirational movies I've ever seen. The music, the drama, the suspense were all top notch. Hanks doesn't need to carry the cast because this cast is superb. Ron Howard made a modern masterpiece here.

For those that don't know, this was a fairly accurate retelling of the events that occured during the Apollo 13 crisis. It uses a combination of real news footage with excellent reeanctment to give you a real positive feeling of pride in the space program as it was in the early 70's. Seeing the level of time management and problem solving that went into bringing those 3 guys home was wonderful to see.

I still get choked up during the final blackout scene. the combination of intense drama, beautiful musical score and wonderful visual effects leaves you on the edge of your seat. For people that never lived through the event, this film helps give a human feeling to those people that dared to be great in the name of human exploration. A must see for all ages.
