Review of Apocalypto (2006) by Ben R — 07 Jan 2012
Mel gibson is a master of engendering hatred towards a set of characters, with brutal scenes of rape and torture perpetrated against the peaceful villagers I was emotively willing murder against the cruel characters doing it.
this harks back to his treatment of "the english" in 'braveheart' and I'M english! a gripping tale that had me glued, non-blinking for pretty much the whole film. the scene where they enter the debauched city reminded me of 'gladiator', but with awe inspiring art direction.
all in all, I think this is up there with 'braveheart', i.e. very good.
