Review of Apocalypto (2006) by Jacob A — 05 Jul 2012
This is a very graphic film. I really wouldn't advise it for kids. I was intrigued by what was being presented here. Even though I kept mistaking the Mayan empire as the Aztec Empire.
The filming was excellent and there was so much to absorb here.
There are two things I immediatly noticed with Mel Gibson's work, the first is his heavy use of imagery, I mean, he literally takes everything in perspective, especially when the Tribals are in the Mayan village. The 2nd thing is a heavy doseage of torture. I have not seen his Passion of the Christ, but I've seen some of most scenes from it. That sadistic nature is also present here. The story is simple, but compelling enough for me to care what is going on. Give it a watch!
