Review of Apocalypse Now (1979) by Cameron S — 23 Aug 2012
A captivating look into the psyche of the war-torn solder. It feels unsettling and builds as our heroes sail upriver. Eventually, though, the movie hits a great big anti-climactic wall. All the energy swooshes out of it in favour of a half hour worth of philosophical ramblings courtesy of Marlon Brando (who is amazing), and psychotic ramblings courtesy of Dennis Hopper (who is also amazing). With all the amazing-ness floating around, it's a wonder the finale feels so sleepy.
